Language requirements

The MA African Studies is taught in English. The required English proficiency is level B2 of the European Reference Framework. Details on how to provide the required proof of English proficiency can be found here.

Tuition fees and funding

Tuition fees are €1764.10 for the entire programme; details can be found here. Students from the EER (including Belgian students) pay the regular tuition fee of €922,30.
Funding opportunities are available:

  • for exchange students: within the framework of the Erasmus programme or bilateral agreements with partner institutions
  • for degree students
    • through Flemish scholarship programmes
    • UGent Top Up Grant. Students who would like to be considered for a UGent Top Up Grant are required to send a letter of motivation to africanstudies@ugent.be. In addition to applying for this scholarship, you need to start up your application for admission to the programme as detailed above. The documentation you submit during the application process will be used for processing your scholarship application.
    • Master Mind Scholarship. Students who would like to be considered for a Master Mind Scholarship are required to send a letter of motivation to africanstudies@ugent.be. In addition to applying for this scholarship, you need to start up your application for admission to the programme as detailed above. The documentation you submit during the application process will be used for processing your scholarship application.Students can apply for both a UGent Top Up Grant and a Master Mind Scholarship. However, not both grants can be awarded. Should both applications be successful, the applicant will have to choose between either of the two grants.The UGent Top Up Grant and the Master Mind Scholarship are not a full scholarship. You will need to supplement the grant with additional funding.

Accommodation

International students have the option of organizing accommodation through the UGent Housing Office.
